Tod’s
Being greeted by Carla Bruni holding a needle and thread as big as herself and wearing a gown made from what seemed like hundreds of leather strips sewn together and all kept in brownish Tod’s hues with a train covering the entire floor. Sounds a bit like a fever dream, doesn’t it? Courtesy of Tod’s. For their F/W 2025 collection the Italian heritage house put all their focus and efforts into showcasing their talent and artisanal intelligence, yet again. Opening the show with a few strong coats, some super soft jersey pieces and some oversized tailoring in shirts paired with straight-legged iron-creased pants eased into the tour de force of leather work, fabric manipulation and pattern making to follow. Creative director Matteo Tamburini doesn’t shy away from introducing irregular volume or fraying the edges of fabrics as design tools. Also, blending leather and knit in a way that does not sacrifice a finished and elegant look is a true skillset. The leather must be the correct thickness interplaying with the knit which takes a lot of expertise. The all over leather looks in full red or brown paired with snake boots were cool, the coat-poncho variations gave it a little equestrian flair and the layered knit look in greige belted with their leather strap positioned the collection very in the now. A look that stood out towards the end of the show was a black, white, and pale-yellow asymmetrical dress that was very out of tune with the rest of the collection – but in the best way possible. Heritage done right.

Sunnei
Simply the coolest, Sunnei is a brand with a clear focus: Garments. It’s not about creating any fantasies, it’s not about blown-up, but empty concepts. They even say it straight out: Fashion is a transaction. Either you buy it, or you leave it. And in that simplicity Sunnei excels. Presenting outfits rarely consisting of more than three single pieces, most of the time just two, really puts the focus on the Sunnei look. Their presentations are always one step ahead making this brand feel somewhat like the new wave of anti-fashion-fashion. The runway which was essentially just a Milanese back alley behind their HQ with an impromptu podium-like stage had the models walk down each of them with their branded shopping bags in both hands. The looks? Easy to understand, easy to wear, easy to consume and above all easy to mix with each other strengthening the brand-consumer bond, which judging from the crowd attending and outside the venue is very loyal.
