Milan Men’s F/W 2026 Highlights Part 4

Navigating the times we live in with Prada

Reflecting the world we live in is what the best fashion does. Right now, our times are dictated by right wing politics, ecological disasters like torrential rain falls and landslides, economic hardship and war. And a crazy president in America who abuses government power to brutalize his citizens giving a chilling reminder that masked people are the horror of our existence. Prada never exists in a vacuum but instead of coming up with a grand and maybe joyful idea to counter, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons built their Fall/Winter 2026 collection within the vocabulary of classic fashion with the answer being: the silhouette. There was an impressive lineup of long and narrow wool coats with narrow shoulders which looked oddly uncomfortable but also give the wearer a heightened assurance through fit as the clothes hold on the body tightly as if glued around the shoulders and arm holes. The general vibe was protective outerwear with a series of trench and hybrid raincoats where the upper half was layered and cut off to possibly create discomfort in movement. The other strong element was a weathered and lived-in look as most of the garments looked like they had not seen an iron board from the styling team before the show and clear signs of wear on openings and lapels suggesting a favorite piece which stays in one’s wardrobe for a long time and is sent to the retoucheur for mending instead of discarding and buying new.

This season’s odd styling element?

The invitation hinted paper patterns of shirt cuffs and in the collection, they were added as oversized unfolded pairs sticking out underneath the coats in line with the unfinished charm also apparent in scuffed boots.

Keeping it fresh?

The deeply low-slung round neckline on knitwear and tailored pants paired with women’s camisoles in red or white continued the subtle introduction of women’s wear elements which has been part of the Prada men’s canon of late.
